AI Resume & CV Detector — Check Resumes and Cover Letters for AI
Upload a resume, CV or cover letter (PDF, DOCX, DOC or TXT, up to 25 MB) and see how likely it is to be AI-written. For the passages that drove the score, open the full document checker. Use it as one signal in a fair review, never as the only reason to reject a candidate.

Use the APIAI-Generated Resumes Are Changing Recruitment
AI writing tools are rapidly transforming recruitment workflows. Recruiters and hiring teams increasingly face resumes, cover letters, and candidate submissions heavily generated or optimized using AI systems.

How to check a resume for AI
Use the upload box at the top of this page. It accepts the formats candidates actually send.
Upload the resume or CV
Drop the PDF, DOCX, DOC or TXT file (up to 25 MB). For text from an applicant tracking system, paste it into the AI text detector.
Check the score
You get an AI probability and a human probability for the document. Open the full document detector to see which passages are flagged.
Focus on the prose
Summaries, “about me” sections and achievement descriptions carry the most writing signal. Contact details, skill lists and dates carry almost none.
Follow up in the interview
If a section is flagged, ask the candidate to talk through that experience in their own words. That tells you more than any score.
How to check if a cover letter is AI-generated
Cover letters are the easiest application document to generate with ChatGPT and similar tools, and the most useful to check because they are almost entirely continuous prose. Paste its text into the AI cover letter checker, or upload the cover letter file using the box at the top of this page. A strongly AI-like result across the whole letter, together with generic phrasing that could apply to any company, is a signal worth a follow-up question.
Typical signs recruiters notice in AI-written cover letters include openings like “I am excited to apply for…”, lists of adjectives without examples (“dynamic, results-driven, detail-oriented”), no specific details about your company or the role, and a polished but impersonal tone. None of these prove AI use on their own; many people write this way, which is why a detector score is a better starting point than gut feeling.
What an AI score on a resume does and doesn’t tell you
An AI score is a probability that the writing style looks machine-generated. It is not proof of who wrote the text, and it says nothing about whether the jobs, dates and skills on the resume are true.
It tells you most about longer prose: summaries, project descriptions and cover letters. Short, formulaic resume lines (job titles, bullet fragments, skill lists) carry little signal, so a resume can score high or low for reasons unrelated to AI. Detectors also flag writers who use English as a second language more often; see why human writing gets flagged.
It does not tell you whether the candidate used AI legitimately, for example for grammar or formatting. Use a high score to decide what to ask: have the candidate walk through a project from the CV in their own words, and check work samples and references before deciding anything.
AI-written resumes: what recruiters should actually look for
Using AI to polish a resume is now common and is not necessarily dishonest. What matters for hiring is whether the content is true and whether the candidate can communicate in the way the role needs. Decide your policy first: many teams accept AI-assisted formatting and grammar but expect cover letters, written test answers and writing samples to be the candidate’s own work.
A useful rule: use AI detection to decide which applications need a closer look, and use interviews, work samples and references to make the decision. Never reject a candidate on a detector score alone. AI detectors can misclassify human writing, and research has shown that writing by non-native English speakers is flagged more often, which could introduce unfair bias into hiring.
A fair AI-screening workflow for HR teams
| Stage | What to check | How ProofAI helps |
|---|---|---|
| Application | Cover letter, written answers, personal statement | Upload or paste each document; note strongly AI-like results. |
| Shortlisting | Flagged applications | Compare the flagged passages with the rest of the application and the role’s writing needs. |
| Assessment | Writing samples and take-home tasks | Check submissions; follow up on flagged work in the interview. |
| Interview | Candidate’s own explanation | Ask the candidate to expand on flagged achievements in their own words. |
| Scale | High application volumes | Automate checks through the ProofAI API with domain-restricted keys. |
Be transparent: tell candidates in the job posting or privacy notice if you check application documents for AI-generated content.
Checking many resumes at once
For occasional hiring, the upload box on this page is enough. Teams screening large volumes of applications can integrate AI detection into their applicant tracking system or internal tools with the ProofAI API, using API keys restricted to their own domain. API plans are priced in INR with monthly or yearly billing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, with limits. An AI resume detector estimates how likely the writing is to be AI-generated. Prose sections like summaries and cover letters give the most reliable results; lists of skills and dates carry little signal.
Upload the cover letter or paste its text into the AI text detector. Look at the overall AI probability and the flagged passages, and treat a high score as a reason to ask follow-up questions, not as proof.
PDF, DOCX, DOC and TXT files up to 25 MB. You can also paste text directly into the AI text detector.
Not necessarily. Many employers accept AI help with formatting and grammar. What matters is that the content is accurate and that the candidate can explain it. Set and share a clear policy.
Yes, through the ProofAI API, which lets you integrate AI detection into your hiring tools. For a few documents, use the upload box on this page.
You can check 10 per day without an account and 25 per day with a free account. Paid plans offer higher daily limits.
Files are used only to produce your result and are not saved by ProofAI; they are sent to the AI model providers listed in our privacy policy to analyse them. Signed-in users keep the score and verdict (not the file) in their history.
Yes, without an account: 10 checks a day. A free account raises the daily limit to 25.
No. Use the score to decide what to ask in the interview, and look at their work samples.
They should never be the only basis for a decision. Detectors can produce false positives, especially for short texts and non-native English writers. Use the result alongside interviews, work samples and references.
