How AI Image Verification Works
Upload Image
Upload JPG, PNG, or supported image formats securely through the verification workspace.
Multi-Signal Image Analysis
ProofAI analyzes texture consistency, visual structure, metadata patterns, and synthetic media indicators.
Confidence-Based Reporting
Receive transparent AI confidence scores and visual authenticity insights in real time.
Review Verification Results
Review image analysis findings and continue workflows through exports or APIs.
Explainable Provenance & Authenticity Metrics
ProofAI moves beyond simple binary classification to trace deep visual markers, ensuring explainable confidence metrics for advanced workflows.
Multi-Signal Pixel Geometry
Generative pipelines create distinctive mathematical alignments in visual lattices. Our platform evaluates structural signals across spatial dimensions.
Organic Sensor Noise Analysis
Physical camera sensors generate subtle, complex thermal noise. Synthetic media models fail to replicate this chaotic randomness naturally.
Known Model Cross-Mapping
We continuously cross-map against spatial noise footprints left by Midjourney v6, DALL-E 3, Stable Diffusion, and other key architectures.
Privacy-Focused Image Verification
Your images are used only to produce your result and are not saved by ProofAI; uploaded files are deleted after analysis. To analyse them we send them to AI model providers listed in our privacy policy. We keep a record of each check (date, type and score, not your image); signed-in users see it in their history.
Images Deleted After Analysis
Uploaded images are processed in memory or temporary files and deleted once the analysis is done. Only a record of the check (date, type and score) is kept.
Encrypted in Transit
Traffic between your browser and ProofAI is encrypted with HTTPS/TLS via Cloudflare.
AI Model Providers
To analyse your content we send it to the AI model providers listed in our privacy policy.

Researchers & Analysts
Review digital media authenticity across investigative workflows. Extract micro-anomalies and pattern insights.
Creators & Agencies
Protect brand trust and content authenticity in AI-heavy environments. Prove original human captures with clean scan reports.
Transparent & Responsible AI Image Analysis
AI-generated image detection continues evolving alongside increasingly advanced synthetic media generation systems.
No verification platform can guarantee perfect accuracy in every scenario, especially when images are heavily edited, compressed, or modified across social channels and content systems.
ProofAI focuses on transparent, confidence-based analysis designed to support informed human review workflows instead of acting as standalone, absolute proof of visual origin.
Is this image AI-generated? Check it in seconds
ProofAI’s AI image detector tells you how likely it is that a picture was created or altered by AI. Upload a JPG, PNG or WebP image and get an AI probability, a human (real photo) probability and a verdict. For some images the result also flags signs of editing or manipulation, not only full AI generation.
It works as an AI image checker for everyday questions such as “is this photo real?”, “AI or not?” and “was this profile picture generated?”, and for professional checks on news photos, product images and documents.
How to check if an image is AI-generated
Upload the image
Use the original file where possible. Screenshots and heavily compressed copies remove detail that helps the analysis.
Run the analysis
Click to start. ProofAI analyses the image and returns a result in seconds.
Read the probability
A high AI probability means the image closely matches patterns seen in AI-generated pictures. A result marked as edited suggests parts of a real photo were changed.
Verify the context
Combine the score with a reverse image search, the source of the image and its metadata before you trust or share it.
Visual signs of an AI-generated image
Image generators have improved a lot, so these clues are less reliable than they used to be. Use them together with a detector, not instead of one.
Hands, teeth and ears
Extra or merged fingers, uneven teeth and mismatched earrings are classic generator mistakes, although newer models make them less often.
Text and signs
Lettering on signs, labels and screens is often garbled, misspelled or melts into shapes.
Too-perfect skin and lighting
Plastic-looking skin, studio lighting in a casual scene and an overall glossy, airbrushed look.
Background logic
Objects that blend into each other, repeated patterns, impossible architecture or people in the background with distorted faces.
Shadows and reflections
Shadows pointing in different directions, or reflections in mirrors and glasses that do not match the scene.
Missing context
No original source, no photographer, no other angles of the same event and no metadata are warning signs for news and viral images.
Images from Midjourney, DALL·E, Stable Diffusion and Gemini
Popular text-to-image tools such as Midjourney, DALL·E, Stable Diffusion, Adobe Firefly and Google’s Gemini image models each leave subtle statistical traces in the pixels they generate. ProofAI is trained to recognise patterns common to AI-generated images rather than to name the exact tool, so the result tells you how likely the image is to be AI-made, not which generator made it.
Some generators also add visible watermarks or invisible provenance data (such as C2PA Content Credentials). These are useful when present, but they are easy to strip by cropping, screenshotting or re-saving, so their absence does not prove an image is real.
Supported images and best results
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Formats | JPG/JPEG, PNG and WebP |
| File size | Up to 25 MB |
| Best input | The original file at full resolution |
| Harder cases | Small thumbnails, screenshots, heavy filters, collages and images that were compressed many times by messaging apps |
| Video | Video and deepfake video detection is coming soon. For now, check key frames as images. See deepfake detection. |
Who checks images for AI
Journalists and fact-checkers
Verify viral and user-submitted photos before publishing. See publishing verification.
Trust & safety teams
Spot AI-generated profile pictures and fake listings. Automate checks with the API.
E-commerce and marketplaces
Check product photos and reviews with images for synthetic content.
HR and recruiters
Check profile and ID photos that look too polished. See AI resume detection.
Educators
Check image-based assignments and design submissions.
Everyone
Check a suspicious image before you share or believe it.
Accuracy and limitations
AI image detection gives a probability, not proof. Heavily edited real photos can look synthetic, and AI images that were resized, filtered or screenshotted can be harder to detect. Treat a high score as a reason to investigate the source, and a low score as “no strong sign of AI”, not as a guarantee that the picture is authentic.
Frequently Asked Questions
Upload it to the AI image detector at the top of this page for an AI probability, then check the context: look for visual errors (hands, text, lighting), run a reverse image search and look for the original source.
Yes. You get 10 free checks per day without signing up and 25 per day with a free account. See pricing for more.
ProofAI looks for patterns common to AI-generated images from popular generators, including diffusion-based tools like these. It estimates whether an image is AI-made; it does not name the specific tool.
JPG/JPEG, PNG and WebP files up to 25 MB.
For some images the result flags signs of editing or manipulation in addition to full AI generation. Small or subtle edits can still be missed.
It can, but screenshots and heavily compressed images lose detail and give less reliable results. Use the original file when you can.
Video detection is coming soon. In the meantime you can check individual frames as images. See deepfake detection.
Yes, but compression removes some signals, so results are less certain. Use the original file when you can.
Yes. ProofAI gives 10 free checks a day without an account, and 25 a day with a free account.
Images are used only to produce your result and are not saved by ProofAI; they are sent to the AI model providers listed in our privacy policy to analyse them. Signed-in users keep the score and verdict in their history.
