QuillBot AI Detector: Suite or Specialist?

QuillBot’s detector is one tool inside a writing suite. That makes it good value if you also paraphrase, proofread and summarise, and a poor fit if detection is all you do. This page is about which side of that line you are on.

QuillBot wins if you want a writing assistant

QuillBot Premium is ₹334/month billed annually, cheaper than ProofAI’s ₹849 Starter, and bundles a paraphraser, grammar checker, plagiarism checker, summariser and AI humaniser with the detector. Its detector says it works across several languages, shows explainer cards for flagged text, and lets Premium users download reports. ProofAI offers none of the downloads yet. If you check for AI now and then and write all day, buy the suite.

A specialist makes sense when detection is the job

ProofAI does nothing but detect. The cases where that helps:

  • You check whole files. PDF, DOCX, DOC and TXT up to 25 MB, on every plan, through the document checker. QuillBot’s detector page describes pasted text.
  • You check short pieces. ProofAI starts at 50 words, against QuillBot’s 80.
  • You check often. Ten scans a day without an account and 25 with one, versus six on QuillBot’s free tier.
  • You want to automate. The API starts at ₹4,499/month for 20,000 credits; we found none mentioned on QuillBot’s detector page.
  • You also check pictures. A separate AI image detector shares the same quota.

The RAID benchmark claim

QuillBot reports a 99% detection rate in independent RAID benchmark runs, and says that when a result is unclear its model leans towards “human” to cut false positives. We have not tested QuillBot ourselves, so we neither confirm nor dispute it. Remember that detectors can mislabel second-language English: the 2023 Stanford study found a 61.3% average flag rate on non-native TOEFL essays across seven older detectors (Liang et al.). Our own published results are on the accuracy page.

Decide in ten minutes

  1. Pick two samples

One text you wrote, one generated by AI, each over 80 words.

  2. Run both tools

Paste into QuillBot, then into the checker at the top of this page.

  3. Ask what else you need

Writing help plus occasional checks points to QuillBot; files, volume or an API points to ProofAI.
