AI Detector for Indian Universities & Colleges
Check assignments, dissertations, project reports and admission essays for AI-written text. Upload PDF or Word files, read the AI probability and the flagged passages, and use the result to start a fair conversation with the student, never as the only evidence.

Why Indian institutions are adding AI checks
Plagiarism checks are already standard in Indian higher education: the UGC’s 2018 regulations on academic integrity and plagiarism require institutions to check theses and dissertations for copied text. Generative AI adds a different problem. AI-written text is usually original word for word, so a plagiarism checker finds nothing, yet it may not be the student’s own work.
An AI detector looks for the statistical patterns of machine-written text instead of matches to existing sources. Used alongside plagiarism checks and a clear AI-use policy, it helps faculty decide which submissions deserve a closer look.
What you can check
Assignments and projects
PDF, DOCX, DOC or TXT files up to 25 MB, the formats students actually submit. Upload above or use the AI checker for PDF and Word.
Theses and dissertations
Check chapter by chapter. Long, continuous prose gives the most reliable results.
Admission essays and SOPs
Statements of purpose and application essays, where AI help is common and authenticity matters.
Images in reports
Figures and photos can be checked with the AI image detector.
Be fair to students who write in a second language
Research has found that AI detectors flag writing by non-native English speakers as AI-generated more often (Liang et al. 2023). Many Indian students write in English as a second language and were taught formal, template-like structures, which can look predictable to a detector.
Treat every score as a probability. Look at which passages were flagged, compare with the student’s earlier work, ask for drafts and version history, and give the student a chance to explain. Share these steps with faculty so the process is consistent. Students can self-check their work on the AI detector for Indian students page, and faculty will find a practical guide on the AI detector for teachers in India page.
How to roll it out in your institution
Write the policy first
Define what AI use is allowed in each course (brainstorming, grammar help) and what is not (submitting AI text as your own). Tell students before the semester starts.
Start with a pilot
Let one department use the free tier or a Starter plan for a semester and agree how results are reviewed.
Integrate with your LMS
Your IT team can connect Moodle or your own portal to the ProofAI API (a small custom integration) to check submissions in bulk.
Review, don’t punish automatically
A flagged result opens a conversation with the student. Record the outcome, not just the score.
Plans for colleges and departments (INR)
Prices from ProofAI’s pricing page. Yearly billing gives two months free.
| Plan | Price | Daily limit | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | ₹0 | 10/day without account · 25/day with free account | Trying it out, individual faculty |
| Starter | ₹849/month | 75 detections/day | A teacher or small department |
| Pro | ₹2,499/month | 200 detections/day | Departments with regular submissions |
| API Starter | ₹4,499/month | 20,000 API credits per billing period | LMS or portal integration |

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Faculty can upload PDF, DOCX, DOC or TXT files (up to 25 MB) and get an AI probability with flagged passages. Institutions can check submissions in bulk through the API.
No. Plagiarism checkers find text copied from existing sources; an AI detector estimates whether text was machine-written. Most institutions need both.
Results are probabilities, and detectors are more likely to flag second-language and very formal writing. Use the score as one signal and review flagged passages with the student. See how accurate AI detectors are.
Yes, with a small custom integration using the REST API: your system sends the text or file and gets back AI and human probabilities. There is no ready-made Moodle plugin yet.
Every user gets 10 free checks a day without an account and 25 with a free account. Paid plans are priced in INR and can be paid with UPI or cards.
Files are used only to produce your result and are not saved by ProofAI; they are sent to the AI model providers listed in our privacy policy to analyse them. Signed-in users keep the score and verdict, not the document, in their history.
